  • Do I use God’s name only for praying and not for swearing in anger or for fun?
  • Do I worship God at Mass on Sunday
  • Do I show respect for my parents and other adults who take care of me?
  • Have I disobeyed my parents or teachers?
  • Have I been mean to anyone or said mean things to them?
  • Have I used bad language?
  • Have I done anything to hurt my own or someone else’s body?
  • Have I gotten into a fight?
  • Have I  encouraged anyone else to sin?
  • Have I taken or destroyed things that belong to others?
  • Have I cheated on homework, tests, or during games?
  • Have I told any lies?
  • Have I broken any promises?
  • Have I listened to music or watched television shows that are inappropriate?
  • Have I been jealous of what others have?
  • Have I been jealous of another person’s family of lifestyle?
  • Have I been selfish?

Steps to Confession

  1. Start with the Sign of the Cross - “In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
  2. Then say - “Bless me father for I have sinned, this is my first confession (or tell him how long it was since your last confession).”
  3. Then you should tell the priest all of your sins.  Start with the worst ones, the priest can’t tell anyone and is there to help you.  Don’t leave any sins out, even if they are hard to say or embarrassing.
  4. The priest will give you some advice and will assign you a penance.  You should do this as soon as possible after your confession so you don’t forget!
  5. Then the priest may ask you for an Act of Contrition, if you don't remember, ask the priest to help you.
  6. Then the priest will give you forgiveness by saying the prayer of Absolution.  Then you can celebrate because you are forgiven!
